About ZAMCOPS

Zambian Music Copyright Protection Society

ZAMCOPS is an acronym for the Zambian Music Copyright Protection Society. It was formed by musicians, as a Collecting Society in 1996 after the enactment of the Copyright and Performance Rights Act in 1994. This was in line with section 22 (1) of the act.  It has a Board of Directors, elected by the general membership and a Management Team that are responsible for policy making and implementation respectively.

The society has grown steadily since its formation in 1996 with the primary mandate of collection and distribution of copyright royalties from three different rights namely:

  • Performing Rights
  • Mechanical Rights and
  • Synchronizing Rights

The reason why the society was formed was to remunerate Composers, Authors, Arrangers and Publishers of music for the public exploitation of their musical works.

Volumetric musical background with a treble clef and notes, the concept of musical creativity.
